Alarm bells for driving licence renewals in South Africa

The Department of Transport has been advised that cancelling the smart card drivers’ licence tender could have dire consequences—with the current card printer on its last legs and a backlog in renewals growing since January. Bribing in South Africa

Buying a Learner and driver's License is unfortunately becoming a trend and normal thing in South Africa.
Today, bribery within the licensing industry is often referred to as " Favor " or as " Plan ", which can be financially costly from as R4000+ and emotionally taxing for those who simply cannot afford the bribe- but still need to obtain their license to get a job.

Driving schools also lose allot of students cause of bribing, students will rather pay a bribe instead of learning properly, it make the proses to be more stress free, and makes driving schools to close there doors.

Not only can be paying of bribes lead to unqualified and unsuitable drivers being on the roads, but it can also place a substantial burden on honest people needing a license and trying to obtain theirs through the appropriate processes.

Obtaining your learners license in a legal and correct manner is the right thing to do.
You can not have a driver's license if you are not even capable of moving off with a vehicle properly.

Not only does your learners license act as a permit that proves that you have basic knowledge of a vehicle and the pertinent rules of the road but it affords you the confidence to develop the right skills to drive safely on our roads.

Bribery  leads to the high incidence of reckless and un educational inexperience drivers on the roads.
This leads to drivers not to know the rules of the road or what to do in curtain road situations, making the road more dangerous for road user.

If we teach learner drivers good driving principles as well as the rules of the road, we stand a better change of increasing the number of well-disciplined drivers on our roads, while also reducing the number of traffic accidents.

" One out of every three drivers on South African roads may have obtained their drivers’ licenses fraudulently – and this could be one of the major contributors to the country’s road death toll."
